Peter Stanley is head of the Centre for Historical Research at the National Museum of Australia, and a member of the
reCollections editorial board. He is the author of 22 books, mainly in the field of military social history. In 2009 he published
Men of Mont St Quentin (Scribe, Melbourne) and
Commando to Colditz, (Murdoch/Pier 9, Sydney) and is currently completing books about Anzacs in the Great War (
Bad Characters) and the February 2009 bushfire (
Black Saturday at Steels Creek). He travelled to Britain with the assistance of a research grant awarded by the Australian Army History Unit.
