Maria Nugent

Maria Nugent is an Australian Research Council Future Fellow at the Australian Centre for Indigenous History in the School of History at the Australian National University. She was previously a research fellow in the Centre for Historical Research at the National Museum of Australia. She has an abiding interest in cross-cultural histories of material culture and in museums as sites of public history. Her involvement with the La Perouse Aboriginal community spans 25 years. She is the author of Botany Bay: Where Histories Meet (2005) and Captain Cook Was Here (2009). Her current research is about Aboriginal people’s historical remembrance.
